THE HOUSE

Ginger‘s home is a 20 year old stone-built domicile, located in a 2.000 qm garden. Situated in the magical surroundings of the fertile Apokoron region at the foot of the White Mountains.

It is lovingly renovated with a beautiful panoramic view over olivegroves and across the valley to Almyrida beach. The house with its Venetian Red facade and its high-beamed ceilings nestles on a hillside and enfolds you with an overwhelming sense of peace – in complete harmony with its surroundings.

With the facade we followed traditional venetian techniques opting for natural gentle materials like lime color. Although fully modernised ginger‘s home avoids the sterility that sometimes characterises recently built holiday homes.

The domicile consists of a one-room-mainhouse and a little adjoining second house which is the sleeping room. Inbetween is the newly renovated bathroom. The two terraces offer stunning views. The second unit, which can be reached over a stone stairway, is the studio with its own small bathroom, a walk-in closet and a shadowy pergola.

The solar-heated pool built in natural stone, is located in the most prominent area of the plot, offering unobstructed views of the sea, Almyrida and the bay of Souda.

Old paved pathways lead through the lush garden past pomegranate, lemon, orange, apricot, pear, fique and olive trees.

The small costal village of Almyrida is only a 5 minute drive from the house, where you can find everything you need for your stay. The magnificent city of Chania is less than 30 km away.

The property accomodates up to four people and we rent it out like this, but it can also be rented as two selfcontained units, each with its own bathroom and private terrace but with one share-kitchen in the mainhouse.

Above all – it is our family’s home! We wish to share this space, its fruits, stories and values with cat-loving friends who seek unique places, freedom and personal, genuine contacts.

It is a magical place to enjoy the tasty kretan kitchen, organic food & wine, taking time for baths and naps, reading books under the kretan sun – allowing yourself to suspend time. Mostly with Ginger on the lap.

LOCATION

Ginger‘s home is a calm hideaway located in a rural area on Cape Drapanos in the Apokoronas region. Together with a couple of other houses it nestles on the foot of the White Mountains at the north coast of the island.

The closest beach is 2,5 km away: Almyrida. Traditionally a fishing village with a long sandy beach and shallow waters, local tavernas, bars and also small but well-sorted shops for your daily needs.

A five-minute-drive further inland you find yourself in Gavalochori – an old and pittoresque village with an interesting history explained in the local folklore museum.
The village offers bakeries and grocery stores, two tavernas and a handicrafts shop. There are 14 Greek Orthodox churches in and around the village as well as venetian arches, wells, roman tombs and an ancient olive oil factory.

The national road (about 7 km away) makes for an easy escape to the beautiful
city of Chania (30 km), the second largest city of Crete and one of the most important
cities of Crete – according to Homer. The distance to Chania airport is 46 km.
The distance to Rethymnon is 48 km, Heraklion 126 km, southcoast 55 km.

AMENITIES

Through its large windows and doors ginger‘s home offers unusually beautiful views
of the surrounding landscape.

In its spacious main room the tone is set by natural warm colours and materials.
There is an open kitchen, a dining area and a comfortable sofa with a wall mounted TV.

The ‘main house‘ accommodates up to two guests with a seperate sleeping room and bathroom. The studio offers a second bedroom for two more guests, a small bathroom and a walk-in closet – ideal for families or two couples spending their vacation together.

For your meals you can either choose the dining room, the forecourt, two terraces, two pergolas or – if you want it to be particularly romantic – the stone circle under the palm trees near the pool.

Both house and studio are equiped with aircondition, Smart-TV and WI-FI. A wood burner in the main house guarantees cosy hours during the colder seasons, also every room is equiped with at least one radiator.
